What to Expect

The first step in accessing services is to call us at 615-936-1327 and we can set up a confidential appointment with one of the Work/Life Connections-EAP counselors. The Administrative Assistant may ask you a few questions to help us determine the best counselor match to assist you with your concern.

During the first visit, you will be asked to complete some intake forms and inventories. The Work/Life Connections-EAP counselor will explain the program and gather a psychosocial history. You and the counselor will discuss the issues you're concerned about. At the end of the session, the counselor will schedule the second phase appointment with one of our Faculty and Physician Wellness Program (FPWP) psychiatric consultants. The initial session at Work/Life Connections-EAP usually requires an hour.

Following these meetings, the counselor and psychiatrist will make some recommendations about the most appropriate next steps or additional resources to deal with your situation. If the problem can be resolved within a few sessions, you may agree to continue to work on the problem with that counselor or consulting psychiatrist. If it is determined that additional expertise or more extensive treatment is needed, the counselor will give you three referrals for professionals or programs within the community who specialize in the area specific to your needs.
