Got Arthritis? Get Moving!

Did you know that walking is a great form of exercise for people with arthritis?  When your joints hurt, you might assume that you should limit your physical activity.  However, walking has been shown to improve arthritis symptoms, physical function and quality of life in arthritis sufferers.  Unfortunately, Tennessee ranks 50th among US states in the amount of time people with arthritis walk per week.  The good news is that here at Vanderbilt we have wonderful walking trails, and Nashville has a system of greenways to make walking easy and pleasant.  Employees can track their walking through the Start! program and win prizes, too!  So even if you suffer from arthritis, try to walk regularly – your joints will thank you for it!
