Are You Prepared for an Emergency?

VU VUMC

Potential disasters and other emergencies can happen at any time, at any place, with little or no warning. Making sure you have a plan and knowing what to do in the event of an emergency or disaster can make a difference in ensuring your safety as well as the safety of those around you. There are three key simple steps that will help you be prepared in the event of an emergency:

Make a kit:

  • Contains basic items you would need in the event of an emergency.
  • Assemble your kit NOW so that it is ready to go when you will need it.
  • Basic items include: water, food, flashlight, extra batteries, battery or hand crank weather radio, cash and/or credit cards, and important documents (insurance cards, etc.). Use this list to help you build your kit.
  • You should have enough food, water and other supplies that will last up to 72 hours

Make a Plan:

  • Make sure your family has a plan of where to meet and how to contact each other in case of an emergency.
  • Use this form to help you make a plan.

Be prepared:

  • Being informed is a very important step in being prepared for an emergency. There are many ways for you to be informed before, during, and after an emergency.
