Health Plus in The Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center (VRWC)
Vanderbilt faculty and staff will have a new resource for reaching their fitness goals, and a new way to “Go for the Gold,” when the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center (VRWC) opens to the campus community in January 2014.
The Health Plus program is not changing as an entity. Health Plus will continue to provide programs and services to support faculty and staff in leading healthy and productive lives.
Health Plus will be housed in the new VRWC. The fitness facility, resources and equipment will merge with the existing Student Recreation Center and the Health Plus offices will be based out of the new facility.
The university has enhanced the existing Student Recreation Center so that it can serve the entire Vanderbilt community – adding upgrades that include expanding weight training, cardiovascular and fitness areas, and multi-purpose spaces. A four-lane bowling alley has also been added that will both support the university’s varsity bowling team and provide a new recreational activity. The center also includes a swimming pool, several basketball courts, squash and racquetball courts, as well as offers multiple group fitness classes.
The new center is consistent with the trend on many college campuses of combined recreation facilities that serve students, faculty and staff, and has been funded by a combination of philanthropy and university investment.
Expanded hours, a demonstration kitchen that can host seminars on topics such as preparing healthy meals, expanded fitness class offerings and a Smoothie King are also among the new amenities.
