Vanderbilt Earns Platinum-Level Recognition for the Sixth Year!
Vanderbilt’s Health Plus Faculty and Staff Wellness and Fitness Program has accepted the 2013 Fit-Friendly Companies Platinum Award from the American Heart Association on Vanderbilt’s behalf for the 6th year in a row. This award recognizes employers who champion the health of their employees and work to create a culture of physical activity and health in the workplace. Platinum is the highest level of recognition.
Supportive environments within the workplace have great potential for increasing the physical acivity in a population. At Vanderbilt there has been commitment through the Health Plus Program since 1991 to support healthy lifestyles. The percent of faculty and staff taking up and increasing exercise continues to increase with trends greater than Tennessee and the nation. Examples of supportive programs for faculty and staff being physically activity include:
- Go for the Gold Wellness Program
- Group fitness classes on and off the main campus
- A fully equipped state-of the-art fitness facility
- Walking groups
- Walking trails on campus and off-sites
- Bicycle commuting
- Corporate Challenge Racing
- Lap It Up Swim Club
